2010 Summer Camps

Beginning Guitar Camp 1 (Ages 8-12)

This camp is open to students interested in learning the guitar. No previous musical experience is necessary as students will learn the guitar from the ground up and learn basic techniques that will give them a great foundation to build on. Camp will focus on chords, simple melodies, and chord progressions.

Chamber Music Camp

This exciting day camp is for students, ages 13 - 18, who play violin, viola, cello, or double-bass. This camp is for all levels, whether you want to increase your knowledge of chamber music, or you have never played in a chamber group before.

Students will learn and enhance chamber playing skills while focusing on small group playing, communication, leading, following,rehearsal skills, performance skills, and playing within the style of their given piece.

Young Strings Camp

This exciting week long day camp is for students, ages 8 - 12, who play violin, viola, cello or double bass. The camp program includes: string orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, music theory, ear training, and a culminating performance.

Beginning Music Theory Camp

What's the difference between a chord, a key and a scale? What do musicians mean by ii V I or I IV V? If you don't know, this class is for you. Learn the structures and rules that help make great music. Focuses will include: intervals, scales, aural training and basic chord construction. This class applies to all instruments. Interested students should be familiar with reading notes.

Intermediate Music Theory Camp

Further your knowledge of music theory as this course focuses primarily on chord construction and analysis as they relate to the major and minor scales. We will answer the "how's?" and "why's?" of what creates movement and resolution in music. Skills learned in this course will help any musician in achieving goals such as: song writing, performance and improvisation.

Intermediate Music Theory Camp Details

Rock Band Camp

Wanna rock this summer?! Rock Band Camp is open to intermediate level students who sing and/or play guitar, bass, drums, or keyboards/piano. The camp will focus on dynamics, vocal and chord harmony, rhythm section interaction and performance considerations while accompanying vocalists. The camp will feature the music of the Beatles. Campers will vote on 3-5 songs to perform in a culminating concert.

Rock Band Camp Details

Song Writing Camp

Learn the basics of songwriting from a critically acclaimed singer/songwriter. Song structure, lyric writing, effective rhyming and how to deal with writer's block will be covered. At the end of the camp, campers will take home a recording of their new song!
